Frequently Asked Questions / Payment / Policies

01 / How does tutoring work?

For online tutoring use Zoom or Google Meet to talk in our tutoring sessions.

If you decide that this might be a good option, I will meet with you and your student for a free 15 minute session. We use this time to build a rapport and I will take the opportunity to understand your tutoring needs and discuss how I might be able to support you best.

If you want in person tutoring and live in the south metro Boston area, I will work with your child at your home, a local library or coffee shop. I don’t usually go north of the Charles River, especially on weekday afternoons.

Many families also use a hybrid option; working on the weekend in person and getting homework or test support online during the week.

02 / What can I get help with?

Students can get support in all levels of physics from Physics I to AP Physics (all four courses).

I can also support studying for the IB and SAT II exams in physics.

If your student needs help in high school math, I can also be of service. I have a bachelors in mathematics education from Purdue, but I have never taught math in the classroom, so the intricacies of best practices that have changed over the last 15 years might take me some time to refresh on depending on your student’s needs.

Finally, I have worked with middle school science teachers and students for many years. The breadth of my science understanding is certainly enough to work through those concepts with your student if that is what you need.

03 / How does payment work?

Students pay for all sessions via Venmo or Paypal.

For online sessions, payment should be received before the session begins.

The hourly rate for regularly scheduled sessions is $100/ hr.

The hourly rate for last minute emergency sessions is $140/ hr.

However, if financial assistance is needed, an arrangement can be worked out. I do not believe that students should be turned away for lack of funds. I’m a public educator at heart and feel strongly that all students should have the right to better themselves if they want to do the work.

04 / When can I get help?

I am available for tutoring from

3 pm - 10 pm EST Monday-Thursday

10 am - 10 pm Saturday / Sunday.

While most sessions occur at regular, scheduled times, I am also available for last minute sessions depending on the day. It never hurts to ask if I’m available to help.

05 / How do last minute emergency sessions work?

If you need tutoring within the next 24 hours, but haven't scheduled anything, you can text or email me and ask for an emergency online session. If you email me before 7 pm EST, I will do my best to find a time for you that night, sometimes within the hour. These sessions are a minimum of 30 min long.

06 / What’s the cancellation policy?

I request that regularly scheduled sessions be cancelled at least 24 hours in advance. If students cancel a session with under 24 hours, they will be charged for that session.
